so-called national service........!!!
I soo have to give my 7 cents worth on this topic because I spent 3 whole months(83 days to be precise) there. Call me crazy, but prior to this,I really wanted to be selected for national service because I thought it sounded FUN and I thought we are allowed to go back every weekend (poor,naïve me) . I even made up my mind to write in an appeal letter to them if I wasn’t chosen (God only knows what I was thinking at that time!)
Though I did suffer there(and that’s an understatement) I did have fun(there’s that word again) too. I also learnt a LOT of stuff, good and bad. I really, really didn’t wanna go as it was barely a week after the SPM examinations and that was supposed to be the time to paint the town pink(I happen to like pink better than red). I also had A LOT of catching up on sleep to do. Trust me when I say I tried every plausible avenue in order to “escape” from National Service, including faking medical reports, fleeing the country, getting married. I even contemplated going to jail for 3 months but I changed my mind after thinking twice!Allow me to start with the “exciting” part of it first cuz once you read the sucky(another understatement) part, you’ll be too freaked out to even consider reading the “good”(exaggeration) stuff about it.
APPEALING (gosh,I cant believe I’m using that word) PART OF NATIONAL SERVICE(in no particular order):
-I got to visit some pretty interesting places. The visit to the Henry Gurney school was totally eye-opening .It made me realize things umm that I didn’t realise before. But it was kinda freaky when we found out the “crimes” they committed in order to qualify for that school. The lesson learnt: Never judge a guy by his cuteness- factor…erm I mean never judge a book(a living or non-living thing for that matter) by its cover!
-Loads of free mineral water. Im serious! The amount of mineral bottles that I collected under my bed at the end of my “stint” is like WHOA!Go do the maths yourself! But the hard part was when I had to throw them all away on my last day there. And I had to throw them in a “normal” bin as they don’t have recycling bins there! So much for me being a environmentalist!
-I really had fun playing hide n seek with our trainers too!You see,we had this “rule” saying that we have to be at our beds(which was very hard umm in texture!) by 12.But come on,who the hell sleeps at 12 and rules are meant to be broken anyway,or so they say! So my friends and I will always sneak out just to gossip about lots of stuff. But it gives you an adrenalin rush at the same time, cuz once you’re caught red-handed,you’re doomed! And I’m not kidding on that.
-I had the chance to annoy some trainers too, which I so didn’t do on purpose. They left me with no choice, really. I mean why the heck should I tie up my hair all the time?! It was a free world the last time I checked.And-your-boots-has-to-be-shiny-all-the-time-at-whatever-cost rule really annoyed me.And by shiny,I mean shiny,as in shiny enough to see your own reflection. No matter how much effort I put in to shine my boots, its never shiny, glossy, gleaming, sparkling, shimmering.glistening(im running out of adjectives here) enough for them!As a result, I’ve been punished many a times, all because of BOOTS!And it is embarrassing, mind you,to be yelled at in front of 400 people! But I eventually became immune to that after a while.
Now,I finally understand how my brother “works”! So the good thing about this is I realized that I’ve the gift of irritating people,
all thanks to National Service! And I intend to use this “gift”to the max!
-theres a whole lot more stuff that I wanna add,bt im kinda bz right nw,so ill write them in my next blog,ya!

Whoa...stop right there, u thought of gettin married to escape NS?? Fakin medical reports or fleeing the country; tat i can understand but gettin married?? Ur crazy! Anyway, who told u tat if ur married u'll be exempted? U thought u suffered in NS? Haha, u must be kiddin me! Try goin to a place where u don't know anyone from ur hometown or anywhere near to it(near as in 100km or more)! See how you feel. And also try having a broken finger there! Anyhow, glad that u had fun there! I didn't noe tat u were a person who would break rules...... What else did u do there ah??? HAHA. But it really depends on the person and how they adapt to the place. Everybody would have had their share of good and bad things(except Viky-he's was all bad; according to him). What matter's most is not how good or how bad things were there but how we utilize/manipulate/direct them to make our life a better one!
Fuyoo.. Prasad..*jaw hits floor* is that really you??!! Since when did you think before you talked?!
